The Art of Remembering-A New Favorite Book!

When I saw this book tour through Kate Rock, I was dying to join. This was my first book by writer Alison Ragsdale. The book will be released 07/16/19.

Professional ballerina, Ailsa MacIntyre, is at the peak of her career when her world is shattered by a shocking diagnosis. Life-saving surgery leaves her with a fractured memory, little recollection of her husband, Evan, and none of her career as a principal dancer.

While recuperating at home, Ailsa hears beautiful music coming from the apartment

upstairs, and the sound of the grand piano at the hands of a talented new neighbor sparks her muscle memory. As her recovery progresses, the broken pieces of her past gradually re-emerge, a picture not quite as idyllic as Evan would have her remember. Ailsa must navigate the conflicting visions of her past, and potential future, as they collide.

You guys. THIS.BOOK.WAS.IMPOSSIBLE.TO.PUT.DOWN. I read it in the course of about 5 hours, and I was hooked from the start. Ailsa is such an interesting character to follow. I knew nothing about the ballet world, but she danced through every single page. All of the relationships are complex and flawed, and they are all so down to earth. Ailsa is such a sincere character and I was so sad to let her go.

In addition, Alison Ragsdale is such a sweet person. I messaged her when I had about 40 pages left in the book to tell her how much I loved it, and she was so incredibly kind. This is an author I am proud to have on my shelf. I'll definitely be looking for the rest of her books. 💟

Wine or Lose by Amanda Chaperon

I was so freaking disappointed by this book. I bought the alternate covers (which are absolutely stunning) at Romance Con and I expected to read about (PER THE AUTHOR) small town charm, office rivals to lovers, and a happily ever after. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t feel like I got any of that. The first problem lies within the setup of the relationship. Amara and Cal meet in a club, fall in love after like 2 hours, and go back to his place before Amara realizes that Cal is the new CFO that her dad just hired for their family’s winery. He calls her a party princess, she storms out, and fast forward to five years later, when they’re both still holding onto that. How have you seriously not gotten over that one interaction in the span of FIVE YEARS? Second, Cal hates women. You can’t convince me otherwise. Man, I’m obsessed with these books. The Never After series is probably my favorite series of all time because each story is just SO 👏 GOOD 👏 This one is an Aladdin reimagining, where the Aladdin character is a whiney little bitch, the Jafar character, Julian Faraci is a snack, and poor little Yasmin Karam has no choice but to marry him and suffer under the weight of his muscles and good looks. I devoured this one. If there was one thing I could ask for in my life, it’s that Emily McIntire write more of these stories because I’m almost at the end of the series and I’m not ready. 😭 If you’re into dark romance and alternative views to the fairytales we grew up with, run, don’t walk to these. If you don’t like them, read them anyway. She just might surprise you.
