 Today is my stop on the book tour for The Ex Boyfriend by Rona Halsall.  It was published by Bookouture on September 30, 2020.  I was given a copy of the book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This book was such a trip.  It starts with every mother's worst fear-being accused of harming her own daughter.  Mia is unexpectedly sick and her mother Becca is terrified of losing her.  Her marriage is falling apart, and it was only natural for her to reminisce on better days with Connor. 

The story was fully of twists and turns and I really enjoyed it, despite guessing the ending 1/3 of the way through the book.  The characters aren't the best people, but the story made up for it.  It was just really hard to connect with Becca because she's so frantic.  The other characters aren't much better in terms of likability.  The story drew me in and I blew through this book.  For anyone looking to read a quick thriller, this book is perfect.

Rona lives on the Isle of Man with her husband, two dogs and three guinea pigs. She has been a bookworm since she was a child and now she's actually creating stories of her own, which still feels like a dream come true. 

She is an outdoorsy person and loves stomping up a mountain, walking the coastal paths and exploring the wonderful beaches on the Island while she's plotting how to kill off her next victim. She also makes sure she deletes her Google history on a regular basis, because... well, you can't be too careful when you spend your life researching new and ingenious ways for people to die.

She has three children and two step-children who are now grown up and leading varied and interesting lives, which provides plenty of ideas for new stories!

Less is more? An honest take on Less, by Andrew Sean Greer.

I finished this book and immediately thought, "I wish this wasn't going to be my first book review."  What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?  Let's see if that's true. The plot is interesting enough.  Arthur Less is a failure.  He's a failed novelist.  He's also a failed lover, proven by the wedding invitation from his ex that shows up in his mail.  The love of his life has found someone else to love.  What does he do, as a functioning adult?  He accepts invitations to participate in literary events around the world in an attempt to avoid the nuptials.  Less travels to Mexico, Italy, Germany, Morocco, India, and Japan in an effort to avoid his grief.  This is a love story, a satirical look at Americans abroad, and an honest, if not painful look at relationships and how they progress over time.
