Mini Reviews by Various Authors

The Deal by Elle Kennedy

This book saw me coming from a mile away and I’m not the least bit disappointed about it.  I absolutely loved Garrett, even if I thought the bad boy label was a stretch. Hannah sure did love her dumb decisions, but I also loved her. I loved how they so nonchalantly agreed to fake date and the last thing that would ever happen on the earth was them catching feelings for each other. I adored how Garrett took such care with her feelings and her trauma. He gave her the world she deserved.  This was my favorite book of the series up until I read the last one, which I also think is a testament to how great this one truly is.

Bridesmaid for Hire by Meghan Quinn

This was freaking adorable. I love a good fake dating scenario, so it felt like this book was made for me. The tropical island was the perfect backdrop for things to go horribly wrong. I do feel like this book could have been a bit shorter, but that’s a minor complaint. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

The Night Shift by Alex Finlay

This was a pretty quick and nostalgic read. I really enjoyed the dual timeline and the cast of characters on each side. The story was pieced together well. This probably isn’t something I’ll read again, but I really enjoyed myself while reading.

Zodiac Academy by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti

Heavy sigh. I finished this book about a week ago and have been so torn on writing this review because I’m still not sure how I feel about this book. Did I love the campy nature of the writing? Yes. Did I love another book about magical boarding schools? Obviously. Did I enjoy the stupid boys who repeatedly forced themselves on the girls. Not a chance. Did I feel like this was 200 pages too long? You betcha. Also, while I understand Darcy and Tory are twins, it felt like they had zero differentiating personality traits. If the chapters didn’t have their names at the top, I never would have been able to tell them apart.  Regarding the 4 boy heirs that kept trying to “flirt” with them, I could not have been more disgusted. Maybe that’s because men are the literal worst right now. Maybe it’s because I’m too old to think these types of relationships are cute. It very much felt like “he picks on you because he likes you,” which, absolutely freaking not. I only really want to conti...

The Ravens by Kass Morgan and Danielle Paige

I’m really not sure how I feel about this. I really loved the idea of a sorority full of witches, but there were so many minor characters thrown in that it became kind of hard to track who was who. The ending would have been more satisfying if I had been able to keep better track of the characters.  I feel like this is something that would make a better show than it would a book.

The Monarchs by Kass Morgan and Danielle Paige

Man, I really didn’t feel like writing this review. I didn’t hate this book, but it did bore the hell out of me. This book is almost identical to the first one. It’s like they just copied and pasted the first book, slapped a new cover on it, and called it a day. I would not have minded the identical format if the first book didn’t have so many problems with it. The amount of characters is still confusing. The romantic elements still feel forced. There is still not enough crime/murder. The covers are absolutely stunning, but these books are disappointing. I don’t regret reading them, but I’m glad they’ll be off my shelves soon. I’m sure there’s an audience for these books, but it’s just not me.

Crossed by Emily McIntire

This was an absolute blasty blast. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one but it turns out I love a demented stalker priest moment. The murders throughout the book also kept me very entertained. This book scratched an itch I didn’t know I had.
